As the diner continued to fill, I grew more and more restless. I knew that Cohawk was a bit of a walk for a giant, but it felt like I had been waiting forever. Viv kept an eye on me as best she could, but as the hostess of the diner, she had to leave me once in awhile. I couldn't help but steal looks over towards the top of Luke's blond head. I wished he wasn't such a jerk. Maybe waiting with him would have been better than waiting at the front of a busy diner for giants.
“Come on, Ronan,” I muttered.
“Is he your boyfriend?”
I glanced up at Viv who was smiling as she reorganized the menu

“So... can I get you something to eat? I don't like to brag but I have an 'in' with the owner.”
Luke tucked his wallet back into his jean pocket with a smile. I don't think he had yet to pick up on the fact that 1) I didn't care, 2) I wanted to go home and 3) I was still planning on reporting him to the No Hate Alliance.
“Oh come on Maya,” Luke said again, leaving over the table for a moment. “I just told you some major news. Aren't you going to say anything?”
“I told you. We're not going to have some kumbaya moment just because we both come from cross-species families.

“Everything alright, Mr. Walters?”
“Oh yeah... she's fine. Just fainted in the park.”
“Are you sure? She looks so pale...”
Chuckling rung over my head. “I'm afraid that's just her color.” Another laugh. “Don't worry, she'll come to soon.”
“And you said she fainted in the park?”
“Yup.”
“Oh man... the poor thing. Is she not used to seeing giants?”
“She's more used to it than many.”
I blinked several times as the voices continued to talk over my head. I didn't recognize the one at all... but the other

“I really don't need you to walk me to school, Garrett,” I said with a huff. Despite my complaining, I rode on his shoulder as he strode towards campus in the early morning light. The air still smelled like dew and I shuddered a bit from the cold. Fall was coming to an end and the dreaded winter season was coming. Giants never seemed to mind so much, but as humans... it was becoming more and more difficult.
“I didn't know that they moved Saturday detention to seven in the morning,” he said softly as he stepped over a morning jogger.
“The only teacher who could take the slot said it

Thursday night. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised that Ronan basically ignored me for the past few days – save for someone pulling the fire alarm, I wasn't able to get within ten giant sized feet of him. He would look at me – smile and be curt and polite... but that was it. I knew I had blown it. I guessed my dad was right. If crushes were easy, they would be called something else.
Isabelle frowned as we stood right in front of my house after another school day.
“I can't believe you're actually going to let that prick get away with it,” she grumbled. “Why don't you just tell y

My father was on the phone when I got back to the house. I had taken the long way home, but I knew my dad was working early hours today so he would be waiting. He was frowning.
“Saturday detention?” he asked when he saw me walk through the door. His eyes widened as the person on the other side of the conversation continued to speak. “That doesn't sound like her at all. Are you sure?” He turned his back. “That really doesn't sound like Maya. I'll have a word with her. Yes... I understand that it's non-negotiable. She's not a troublemaker. I'm sure there's a good explanation for th

I wasn't going to wait for him to ask twice. At the warm sound of Ronan's voice I quickly scrambled away between those two massive black sneakers and sought out the wall. Luke watched me for a moment as Ronan lugged him to his feet, his normally cool and confident eyes wide with surprise. The blond ran up next to them.
“Let him go,” he said.
“Don't think you can do your charm shit on me, Evans,” Ronan growled. “Back up.”
“Oh come on,” Evans said. “Let's be reasonable about this. She's just a human—”

By Monday morning I swore my cursor was taunting me. Ronan had left several messages on my FacePage but I just couldn't bring myself to talk to him.
Are you alright?
Did you talk to your dad?
Did Luke contact you?
Maya. Please don't ignore me.
Please. Talk to me.
Please.
I couldn't respond. Hell, I couldn't even look at them come Monday. I barely could walk to school. Garrett was convinced that I was sick, but I think in the back of his mind he knew better. He watched me with a worried expression as I tucked my laptop into my backpack and slung the whole thing over my shoulder.

“How's your burger?”
I frowned and looked up at Ronan. I was still pissed at him. And what me even more pissed is because I didn't really understand why I was so pissed off in the first place! Did I really want him to admit he liked me? No! Of course I didn't. So why was I so angry?
“Are you going to answer me or not?”
“The burger's fine.” I kept my voice curt and simple, hoping he would get the point that I was pissed... no. Not pissed. Not pissed. “It's a little overdone,” I said, frowning.
He lowered his fork. “Really?” he asked, arching a curi

Getting ready for a first date is always a challenge.
Particularly when your father is a giant.
“You're getting awfully dressed up for a night out with the girls.”
I turned around from the mirror and glanced over at my father with a weary expression. A difficult task considering he was almost fifty feet tall. He filled up the massive doorway with easy and his salt and pepper hair hung clumsily around his eyes. He narrowed his light brown eyes, scrutinizing me from the safety of the doorway. Despite having a room sized for giants, my father alway
