Chapter Eight

MJ let out a huge sigh of relief as she now found herself towering over Luna and Riya's silly servants.  She had never felt tall in her life and she was beginning to enjoy it.  She couldn't stand another minute of Luna and Riya babying her, and if she had to look up into Elamorn's stupid face she was afraid she would punch it.  Now standing over him, he didn't even seem worth her time and MJ was even happier when Luna flew away from the two other pixies and landed on her shoulder.
"I guess I'll be going now," she said staring down at Elamorn who obviously couldn't fly.  Elamorn lowered his head and walked back into Riya's dwelling without another word.  She laughed like she thought a true gentle giantess should and started to walk back to Aldar and Luna's home realizing just how much she missed Aldar yelling at her and treating her like an equal.
"So where will you sleep?" Luna asked.
"I have no idea," MJ sighed realizing how hard it was going to be.  "I was looking forward to sleeping in Aldar's bed…"
"I bet you were," Luna interrupted with a small chuckle.
"Shut up, that's not what I meant," MJ laughed back.  "But I don't think it would be a good idea to shrink down and then grow again in the next twelve hours."
Luna looked thoughtful at her now gigantic friend, "No, probably not."
"I don't mind sleeping outside tonight," MJ concluded.  "I'll find a clearing near your and Aldar's house and just sleep on the ground.  It's just one night anyway and tomorrow I want to be my size when meeting the elves.  They're even bigger than me right?"
"Yeah, they're really tall but don't worry they're not as tall to you as you are to me."
MJ stopped in front of Aldar's house and Luna flew off her shoulder and ran to the front door.  "I'll just go get Aldar," she said but MJ held up a hand and knelt down.
"No…" she began hesitantly, "That's really okay.  I can talk to him tomorrow."
"But MJ, you said you wanted to see him, that’s the whole reason you wanted to come back right?" Luna said gently but kept the door shut.
MJ shrugged her shoulders, "I'll see him tomorrow," she mumbled and began to back away from the house walking quickly into the dark woods.
"MJ wait!" Luna shouted at the door burst open and Aldar stepped out.
"Where's MJ?" he asked with a grumpy face.
"She's sleeping in the woods tonight she says."
"What?  Why is she doing that?"
"She says she's tired of everyone babying her."
"I told you to knock that stuff off," Aldar grumbled.  "MJ!" he screamed and took off into the woods trying to follow MJ's trail of broken branches and smashed leaves.
"Wait Aldar!  Do you want my help?" and she flew to catch up with him.
"No!" Aldar screamed.  "Go back, you and Riya have done enough I see.  I'll talk some sense into that stupid girl," and kept running into the woods leaving Luna floating gracefully a few feet above the dirt.  She shook her head, fighting the need to help her brother find her but knew that it was truly best if she stayed and waited at their house.
"Stupid girl?" she mumbled, "and this is what she misses so much?  That girl must be a masochist."

As MJ started off into the woods she couldn't help but feel horrible as she heard a few pixies screaming as they saw her running through the town.  It was terrible to be seen as a monster, but after having that dinner with Riya and Luna she didn't care because anything was better than being a baby that must be cared and looked out for.  She fought back the desire to stop and tell pixies not to fear her but it was such a fine line of not wanting to be a monster and not wanting to be a tiny being that she just kept on running until she was out of the pixie town and in the woods.  She didn't run in too deep and for a moment she thought she heard Aldar scream her name but she just kept on running.  She felt oddly strange being back in her human sized body and was even more upset when she tripped on what must have been a very large tree root sticking up from the ground.  She felt her body make a large sound and couldn't help but think of what the pixies were thinking as she crashed downward.  She sat up slowly and leaned against a large tree and noticed that her right elbow and knee were now scratched up and bleeding.
"Oh great," she mumbled and buried her face into her knees.  She hated this horrible place and wanted to go back home now.  Being a giant wasn't fun and meeting the elves was probably going to be no picnic either from what she had gathered from Luna, Riya, and Aldar…Aldar.  MJ stopped and thought about him and cried even louder into her knees and felt, for the first time, truly alone in this strange land.  She missed people her own size.  She missed Shyla and her parents.  MJ was still pretty short in her own world, but nobody she was close to was as tall as Aldar or Luna and certainly not Riya.  Riya confused her the most of all, what was with that guy?  From what Luna explained, it sounded like he liked her, but to MJ it seemed more as if he wanted to take care of her and that really weirded her out.  When Riya looked at her, she melted under his gaze, but something was still telling her to be cautious about him.
MJ groaned loudly and looked down at the ground around her.  She sniffed, still not done crying and began to stress out about the night ahead.  Was she really going to sleep out here in the woods by herself?  She didn't even like to go camping back at home, and yet, here she was leaning against a tree and crying like the huge baby she now felt like.  She didn't dare venture any deeper into the woods for fear of the reacten elves that Aldar had warned her about; it was scary enough knowing that she was going to meet the so called High elves at noon tomorrow.
"What am I going to do now?" she whined and started crying into her knees again.  When suddenly, MJ heard a rustling in the woods behind her.  "What now?" she mumbled but refused to move.  She was a giant, she shouldn't be so scared, the pixie village couldn't have even been that far from her.  But as the rustlings got closer, it was only natural to be scared of the unknown.
"Hello?" she asked.
"MJ," a familiar voice asked harshly and out of the leaves stepped Aldar looking quite angry.
"Aldar," she said, not bothering to hide the relief in her voice.
Aldar marched up to her shoe and sat on it refusing to look her in the eyes.
"You really aren't an elf," he muttered.  MJ shifted her shoes causing Aldar to fall on his bottom and MJ could hardly suppress laughing.  It was amazing how quickly she went from being angry to laughing and she attempted to compose herself remembering why she was out here in the first place.  Aldar sprang up and pointed an accusatory finger at her.
"You had me worried sick you stupid idiot," he said with a harshness.  "You aren't around all day and when Luna finally comes home she tells me you're big again and ran away into the woods.  Did you not think for a second about how worried I would be?" Aldar clutched his chest as if this really bothered him and MJ felt her face crumble.  Everyone else treated her like a monster or a child and Aldar was the only one thus far who had refused to do either.  MJ sniffed and began to cry again.
"I'm sorry," she muttered as the tears fell freely.  "You just don't know or understand how I feel right now okay?  Luna and Riya make me feel like such an idiot, I'm bigger than they are damnit.  They have no right to make me feel this way, so I asked Riya to un-shrink me and he gave me these weird pills and I took one and now I'm human sized but it still sucks.  So I didn't want you to see me acting like the idiot you say I am so I ran out here and I'm staying out here all night and my knee and elbow hurt because I fell and no one even cares anyway except probably those stupid high elves and who knows what will happen then," she rambled and began sobbing loudly.
"Hey, hey don't cry MJ," Aldar said sounding like the really was upset.  MJ lifted up her head to see the tiny man rubbing her shoe as if to comfort her.  "I don't think you're an idiot really, that's just my way."
"I rather you call me an idiot!" she screamed and Aldar leapt a few feet away from her.  "No one else treats me like an equal.  I'm either a tiny pixie version of you guys or I'm a giant that everyone needs to run away from.  What the hell…my damn knee hurts!" she cried and buried her face back into her knees.
"Oh brother," Aldar groaned and MJ felt him climbing up her legs which were still bare because of the dress the councilman had given her.  MJ sniffed and lifted up her face to see Aldar standing on her un-hurt knee.  "You really took a fall didn't you?" Aldar asked and his finger tips began to glow.
"No!" MJ shouted, "I don't want to shrink…"
"Relax MJ.  I heard what you said.  I'm not going to shrink you," and he delicately placed his hand on her knee, causing the scratch to heal, scab over and eventually disappear.
"How did you do that…"
"Give me your elbow," he commanded and MJ held out her elbow.  Aldar delicately touched it and the same thing happened.  "That's a start isn't it?" he asked hopefully looking at her reaction.  Sadness was one thing, but for Aldar, looking at MJ was sadness magnified twenty times and he couldn't stand to see any girl cry like she was.
"Thank you," she muttered.
"Are you really planning on staying out here all night?" Aldar asked knowing already how this proud being would answer.
"I'm not shrinking again until after I meet the elves.  I don't care if I have to sleep out here all night," she harrumphed at him.
Aldar nodded.
"I can understand that.  You really are having a hard time here aren't you?" he asked.
MJ nodded, "It's so strange.  I don't know what annoys me more, being your sized, but still being so short and ugly, or being a giant and being a monster and ugly."
Aldar looked very surprised at this omission.  "Ugly?  What jerk said that you were ugly?"
MJ looked sheepish, "Elamorn, and probably everyone else here."
"Did Luna say you were ugly?"
"Well, no"
"Did the most powerful pixie in this forest say you were ugly?"
"No, but…"
"MJ" Aldar interrupted with a strong stare, "Did I ever say you were ugly?"
MJ let out a huge sigh and Aldar braced himself but MJ cupped her palm behind him for balance.  "No," she concluded.
"And I never would.  So stop with this ugly nonsense.  You're a great looking girl, despite not being a pixie."
"Or an elf,"
Aldar let out a large belly laugh causing MJ to smile for the first time, "Or an elf."
"But you really are staying here aren't you?" he asked seriously.
MJ crossed her arms across her stomach and frowned.  "Yes, and if you shrink me, so help me, I'll punch you and eat another marble to be big again."
The pixie shook his head and stared at the giant girl in front of him and it pained him to think of what a hard time she was having.  True, the pixie world didn't treat Searchers very favorably but he was used to it.  Perhaps MJ was not used to being treated as an outcast.  He shrugged his shoulders and knew that he was going to have to take a big risk to help her feel better, even if it went against everything he believed in.
"Well," he started and jumped off MJ's knee and into her folded arms.  "I guess I will have to stay with you also then won't I?  Can't have the councilman's girl get injured on my time now can I?"  He looked up into MJ's very surprised face and smiled.  Carefully, she unfolded her arms and with shaking hands Aldar crawled into her lap and cuddled against her stomach as best she could.  This was not an ideal situation for him, but he knew this may be the only way to make her feel better.  He grabbed the fabric of her silver dress and pulled it around him, almost like a blanket and settled down.  With a surprise he felt one of MJ's gigantic hands cup around him and pull him even closer.  He dared to look up at MJ's face and with shock he noticed that she was crying again.
"Are you okay?" he asked her carefully and through her tears MJ gave him a sad smile that almost broke his heart.
"Thank you Aldar," she muttered and pressed him even closer to him.  He felt the girl leaning forward and without realizing what was happening; MJ kissed the top of his green head.  "Thank you so much" and she cried herself to sleep leaning against the tree holding the tiny man on her lap.
Aldar felt ridiculous and worried that his sister would find him like this and never let him live it down.  Still, he pulled away and looked at the sleeping giantess; he couldn't help but feel that it was all worth it.  She was meeting the high elves tomorrow and knew how scared she was.  He would be terrified himself and MJ already meant a lot to him, human or pixie sized.  He felt that since he found her first it was his true job to take care of her and get her out of this world that truly wasn't built for her.  It would pain him to see her go, but not as much as it was paining him now to see her so upset.  The wheels in his head began to turn as he thought about how to get her out of here, and the only conclusion dawned on him right before he went to sleep.  She was meeting with the high elves tomorrow but they were not the only elves in the forest that could do magic.  Luna and Riya were some of the strongest pixie users but surely would not be enough to transport her out of here.
"When she goes to see the high elves tomorrow, I must go find Rayne.  She may be the answer to all of this," he muttered and snuggled closer into MJ's lap, closed his eyes and fell asleep.
I think that's it for day. Three chapters is pretty nice! Hope you guys enjoy this and stay tuned for the next round!
