Take Me Home Sophi:  IV

When Sophi opened her eyes up the next day she was relieved that the giant/Christopher was still fast asleep.  Pushing the blanket past her she slid down off the pillow, she checked to see if he was still asleep.  After noticing that he was, Sophi walked over to Kasey's box, standing to look inside again.
She was still fascinated at how much she appeared to mean to him.  Using a box to climb up, she jumped into the box and walked towards the 'journal' he had mentioned.  She took it up, turning it around in her hands.  Christopher had mentioned that he had never looked inside.  But Sophi wanted to know Kasey's thoughts on the whole thing...she had just turned to the first page when she heard him stirring.  Turning her head slightly, she watched to see if he was actually waking up.
He turned a bit, slowly waking up. Though it was more like when you're awake but refuse to be, lying with your eyes closed to try to sleep again. He turned onto his back, "Ugh," he started off in a sleepy voice, "morning, Sophi."
Sophi's head darted up at his talking, causing her to drop the book.  Cringing, she realized her mistake.  Christopher probably didn't want her snooping about in Kasey's stuff.  She remembered how upset he had been just from her kicking the box.  Quickly she scooped up the book and tried to set it down and climb out of the box.  Damn!  There didn't seem to be an easy way out.  She was trapped...and definitely caught.
After a minute he sighed, sleep not coming again. He sat and turned to look at her, taking a moment to really process what he was seeing. His expression remained tired, though he was fairly irritated. He might have actually let her look at Kasey's things if she had just asked. He reached forward, taking the journal from her from her hands and set it back in the box before gently scooping her up and setting her back on the pillow. He then flopped back down onto his pillow.
"It's too early for this," he muttered, not even wanting to deal with her.
Sophi looked irritated about the whole process.  He was even more annoying than he was yesterday!  Taking her up like that, without even asking her permission!
Sliding back down the pillow, she walked towards the lamp on the end table and tested its secureness before sliding down to the floor.  As if she needed some giant's help to be carrying her around!  She'd look in the journal later; he couldn't stop her.  Walking towards the doorway she noticed that the door was closed.  Her head jerked towards Christopher's direction who was still trying to go back to sleep.  Who closed their damn door at night?  Her tiny door was more secure as well...DAMN!!  When had he fixed it?  She slumped on the wall...more pissed than anything.
Lifting his head up, Christopher couldn't help but chuckle, hearing her tiny form drop to the floor. "Sorry, kinda thought fixing a hole in the wall was a good call," he said, forcing himself to sit up.  "So, did you get very far? In her journal I mean."
True to form again, Sophi flicked him off, annoyed to hear him laughing at her.  Fucking giants.  Still though, she shook her head, signaling that she didn't read that much...in fact she didn't read anything at all.
He sighed, both in relief and irritation. Dammit, why'd he pick her up again? He was tired sure, but that was uncalled for. "Hey I'm sorry for picking you up, Sophi. I'm still kinda tired, not thinking straight."
Sophi shrugged...what was there really to say?  Standing up, she pointed towards the door, signaling that she wanted out.  She wasn't really in the mood to talk to him.  The more she talked to him, the more she started to think of herself less as his damn pet and that ticked her off even more.  What was this stupid giant and not treating her like a pet and yet...she pointed at the door, more violently this time.
"Right, right... In a minute," he said with a sigh, climbing out of bed. His medium black hair was in a ridiculous bed head, like it had exploded. He walked into his closet, returning dressed in normal clothes instead of pajamas. He walked up to the door, looking down at her before opening it. "You do realize we need to go down the stairs again, right?"
Sophi didn't dare try to make eye contact with him when he was standing so close to her.  Oh...right.  Keeping her head lowered, she pointed up at his hand and then motioned at her own shaking her head violently.  There was no way that she would sit in his hand again.  The whole thing was simply too awkward.  She made a walking motion with her fingers to signal that she wanted to do it herself.  Her back was feeling a little better today after all.
"Alright... but I'm staying nearby just in case," he said, opening the door and heading towards the stairs. He walked down a couple of them before turning to face her.
Sophi's face reddened as he looked at her.  Like she was a damn child that needed to be taken care of!  She motioned for him to turn around so he couldn't watch her.  All of this attention was making her mad.  Why did he have to keep looking after her?  He could have easily left her to her own devices but instead he stuck around.
Christopher smirked.  "I told you, if I'm letting you go down these stairs on your own I'm staying nearby," he said simply, "Unless you rather get some help?"
She narrowed her eyes as she sat down on the first stair and slid down.  FUUUUUUUCCCKKK...her fucking back was not as well as she thought.  She tried to not the pain show in her face, but it wasn't that easy to hide.  Seeing him smirk though, she slid down another stair and then another, through the pain.  When she got close to him, she motioned for him to back away, not only because the closeness but she didn't want him to catch the pain in her face.
"You know, you're gonna have to learn to accept help eventually," He answered with a shrug, taking a few steps back.
Frowning, she kept sliding down the stairs.  Did he think that she didn't know that?  She just...she didn't want it.  The more help she needed, the easier it was for giants to see her as a pet.  And she didn't want that.  She wanted to be an equal.  Sophi finally made her way down the floor and rubbed her back.  She made it!  It was a small victory but she was going to take it.
"Alright then. So what were you planning on doing? I was gonna make breakfast," he said, starting to make his way towards the kitchen. He stopped and turned to her. "Anything specific you want, or should I just make what looks good?"
Sophi shrugged and kept walking to the main part of the house.  Seeing that there was still a few scraps of paper on the floor near the coffee table she wrote down WHATEVER YOU WANT, I'LL EAT and walked up to him, holding up the note to him.
"Well okay then," Christopher said and walked into the kitchen, pulling out a package of bacon.  "I guess bacon by itself is still technically breakfast," he mused, grabbing a frying pan.  After washing his hands, he pulled a couple strips out and set them in the pan and soon the house was beginning to fill with that wonderful smell that bacon produced in the morning.
Sophi couldn't help but feel interested.  Tilting her head to the side, she stood up and picked up her pencil stub and paper and walked across the floor into the kitchen, her mouth watering just from the smell of whatever Christopher was making in that pan.  It was odd to approach a giant by her own choice but he seemed to be too busy to notice.  Sophie caught the sounds of something popping in the pan and standing a few feet away from Christopher she just watched him for a moment.
And then…then Sophi did something she never thought that she would do.  She walked up to him and lightly tugged on his jeans.
He looked down with surprise, not expecting her to show up in here. "What is it, Sophi?" he asked, trying to keep his voice soft so not to piss her off, or worse, scare her.  "Did you need something?
Sophi looked up at him curiously for a moment, trying to find the words.  Crouching down, she wrote the only thing that seemed logical.  CAN I WATCH? She wrote out and held the paper out to him.  She was nervous about his reaction to the note.  Was it so wrong to want to watch a giant cook?
He scratched the back of his head nervously before reaching down and setting his hand by her. "Sure... but at a distance," he said in a worried voice.  The last thing that he needed was a splatter of hot bacon grease to land on her, but he found that he wasn't able to deny her request.  It was the first time where she had willingly asked to do anything around him, and though he was wary, he figured that as long as she stayed back, that it would be okay.
Safety was always a concern when it came to humans, there were so many things that could hurt them.  The high counters, the stove, the oven…anything.  Anything would be a hazard for a human.  But he tried to give her a hopeful smile, relieved that she at least wanted to spend some time with him.
Gripping her paper and pencil tightly to her chest, she took a few steps towards him.  She wanted to see giant food being made but she had forgotten that she needed help.  Giant's hands were not always kind.  Her legs shook a bit at the idea of choosing to go to him, but he was right, she would need help eventually.  Being on the floor was kind of a pain anyway.  She stepped into his hand and faced away from him.
He stood back up slowly, not wanting to jostle her. He set her down a couple feet away on the counter before moving back to the stove, continuing to keep an eye on the bacon.
Sophi stepped back as he went back to his work.  That wasn't so bad.  She watched him as he worked on breakfast - the smell absolutely intoxicating to her - when she realized that there was something that she wanted to ask him.  Something that she had picked up on yesterday that puzzled her.  CAN I ASK YOU SOMETHING? She wrote and waved the paper to get his attention.
He kept her visible in the corner of his eye, paranoid about having her in the kitchen at all let alone on the counter, "Sure, what's up?"
YOU SAID THAT YOU DIDN'T WANT ANOTHER PET she wrote, not sure if this was something that she should bring up to him.  YOU SAID ME BEING HERE WAS AN ACCIDENT.
Christopher looked at the note, a little worried.  He had hoped that this wouldn't be something that she would ask about.  At least not until she trusted him.  "Well... yeah. My friend ordered you for me. And you're right, I don't want another pet," he said, flipping a bit of the bacon. "Which kind of makes me wonder where you would fall in that scenario. Humans are supposed to be pets…" he trailed off, looking at Sophi's reaction, "but that just doesn't sit right with me. You know?" He asked, turning back to her. "Guess I'd be cool with having a roommate at least."
She frowned, so she was an accident.  Grumbling to herself, she didn't pay much attention to his last statement still focused on the idea of she wasn't supposed to be here.  The whole thing with Eres might have never happened if that friend of his didn't buy her.  Maybe Eres would have different if things hadn't turned out the way that they did.  CALL THE SHELTER TODAY, SEE IF ERES IS THERE:  she concluded and wrote it out.
He brightened up, thinking she meant about getting the antidote. "Sure!" he said in what Sophi thought was an overly bright voice.  "Let's see if we can get you talking again." He set the bacon on a paper plate, scooting it over to her. "So should I call now, or after breakfast?"
Her eyes widened, surprised at how excited he was.  Maybe he did really want her to leave.  Or maybe he didn't get it?  She started to write again:  GOOD, THAT WAY I'LL BE OUT OF YOUR HAIR.YOU WON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT TAKING CARE OF ME.  She gave a pained smile and walked up to the bacon, breaking off a small piece.
"Wait," he said, frowning a bit.  "Do you think that I don't like having you here?" He asked, growing a bit surprised.  "Sophi, I don't mind you sticking around, in fact I'd prefer it."
With a wave of her wrist, she easily blew him off.  TRY CALLING NOW she wrote and held it out to him.  The bacon was amazing though.  She was easily polishing of half of a piece and was still good to go.  ERES WILL TAKE GOOD CARE OF ME.  HE'S THE ONLY GIANT I EVER TRUSTED UNTIL HE TOOK PART IN TAKING MY VOICE AWAY.  HE MAY EVEN HAVE THE ANTIDOTE.
Nodding, Christopher hid the slight hurt feeling when she said she only trusted Eres. He had thought they were at least making progress, but now he guessed not. "Alright, I'll give him a call then.  He watched as the human continued to break off pieces of the bacon, pleased with the breakfast that he had made her.  "Glad you like the bacon," he said, walking out of the kitchen.
Steven was working the front desk over at the shelter, still pissed off that Dr. Carr had gotten rid of yet another good volunteer.  Eres was a little messed up, caring about that mouthy human so much but there wasn't really anything that he could do about it.  Hearing the phone ring on a random morning, he paused.  Getting a call wasn't usually a good thing.  He picked up the phone.  "Hello?" he asked, praying that this had nothing to do with Sophi.  He saw Dr. Carr come through the door and he turned away, "How can I help you?"
"Hi, I'm looking for someone named Eres?" Christopher asked, trying to stay happy. He hoped that this Eres guy was trustworthy.  If nothing else, he wanted to make sure Sophi was well taken care of if he couldn't take care of her, himself.
"Eres?" Steven repeated with surprise, lowering his voice so the doctor wouldn't hear.  "Uh...no.  Can I ask who's calling for him?"  He grimaced, he knew most of Eres's friends and this person didn't sound familiar.  Which could only mean...
"Who is it?" Dr. Carr asked lazily from another room as he set up his coat.  "Is there a problem with one of the animals?"
"Uh...no sir..." Steven said, ducking into a private room to take the call.  "Can I ask who is calling and what this about?"
"Well, I've got Sophi here with me," he began, remembering what she was concerned about. "A-And everything is going alright, really! We were just hoping Eres might have a way for her to talk again. Do you think I could have his number or something?"
"Sophi huh?" Steven asked, his voice lowering even more.  "Listen, I don't know what's going on there, but you had better find a way to deal with it.  Eres was fired because of her and I just," he grabbed the bridge of his nose with irritation, "she's just a damn human."  Steven looked out through the door and saw Dr. Carr coming to check on him.  Steven didn't usually care for humans but he certainly didn't like to see them get hurt.  "Listen...just deal with it.  I'll do my best to talk to him about this okay?"
"Did I hear you mention Sophi?" Dr. Carr asked right as Steven slammed the phone down.
"No, sir.  It's nothing.  Just a check in," Steven muttered and went back to his business.
"Just a damn..." He was about to snap at him before realizing the phone had been hung up. He snapped his phone shut, pocketing it and walking back into the kitchen, watching Sophi still eating the bacon.  Her eating habits were actually quite impressive to him at this point, but it wasn't really time to talk about that.  "He wasn't there. The guy behind on the other end said he'd try to talk to him about an antidote though."
Sophi looked surprised and set down her piece of bacon.  HE'S ALWAYS THERE! She wrote out angrily.  Giants...she wouldn't have been surprised if he was lying.  WHAT KIND OF GAME ARE YOU PLAYING??
Christopher looked incredulous.  "Game? I...wait…you think that I'm lying to you?" He asked.  "I'm fairly certain that I promised to help you out. Why would I lie to you?"
She turned away from him, still angry.  How could Eres be gone??  She pulled on her hair, unsure of what to do next.  Turning back to look at Christopher she furrowed her brow in an attempt not to look as scared as she felt.  ERES WAS REALLY NOT THERE?
He sighed, pulling a chair over and taking a seat, "No, Eres wasn't there. You seem surprised, so I'm guessing that's not normal for him to be gone," he said, leaning back in his chair.  "... Know any other way to get a hold of him?"
Her only chance of getting out of here and to a home where she was wanted...was missing.  What could have happened where he wasn't at work??  Groaning in her head she leaned up against the plate, pulling her knees close to her.  What was she supposed to do now?
Christopher's expression softened as she saw how upset she was. This Eres guy must have been pretty decent if someone like Sophi cared so much about him.  He reached out to comfort her before thinking better of it and retracting his hand.  "I'm sorry, Sophi.  If there's anything else that you want help with, and then just ask," he said, grabbing a piece of bacon and starting to eat.
She nodded at him.  Scratching her head, she tried to think of a way to talk to him because at the very least she would be stuck here until she found a way to contact Eres.  SO WHAT MADE KASEY SO SPECIAL? She wrote out, genuinely curious for the first time.
"Kasey?" he asked with surprise.  Why was she so curious about Kasey?  From the sound of it, she shouldn't care about anything in his life.
GIANTS DON'T ACTUALLY LIKE THEIR HUMANS, Sophi wrote out, hoping that this would explain her curiosity.
"Well, I liked her," he said simply. "And... I guess it was that she was so... strong," he said with a smile.  He couldn't help smirking at Sophi's face of utmost disbelief.   "I don't mean physically, I mean that she acted... kinda that same as you. So determined, so independent."
She pondered the statement over.  HUMANS AREN'T STRONG IN THIS WORLD.  She concluded but Christopher frowned.
"Oh?  And why is that?  Just because you're smaller?"
Sophi nodded.
Christopher hummed.  "Well I think that humans can be strong without being giants.  Take for example with the stairs. You wanted to go down them, without my help and a hurt back. Now that's stupid... but it's strong, Sophi."
Her face grew hot again.  I REFUSE TO BE A BURDEN.  She tried to explain.  I'M NOT AN ANIMAL BUT SO MANY TREAT ME LIKE THAT.  She looked over her note before thinking of something else to ask...but decided against it.
He was about to respond before he thought of something. He thought he noticed her look at her note oddly for a second. "Is there... something else that you were about to write down?  You can tell me, you know."
Sophi looked up at him, giving it some though.  What did she really have to lose?  WHY DON'T YOU READ IT? She wrote out KASEY'S JOURNAL?  WHY NOT JUST READ IT?
"I just... I can't bring myself to invade her privacy. Even if she is gone," He shifted a bit, thinking it over.  After another moment of thought, he sighed.  "And I guess... that I'm afraid to. What if she didn't really like me? What if...what if it was all an act?"
ACT?  She wrote out, seeming a little confused  WHY WOULD SHE ACT?  YOU'RE A GIANT YES.  BUT YOU SEEM OKAY.  I MEAN OTHER THAN THE ACCIDENT she stopped writing to see how he would react.  IM SORRY, I DON'T MEAN TO BRING THAT UP.
He waved it off, "It's fine. At least you believe me when I say it was an accident.  It kills me to know that people think I just killed her."
YOU DON'T SEEM LIKE THE TYPE.  I'VE BEEN WITH THOSE TYPES. She wrote but stopped.  She didn't need to discuss this with anyone.  MAYBE YOU SHOULD READ IT, she offered to him.  MAYBE IT WOULD HELP YOU GET OVER HER?
"Maybe... you really think I should?" He asked her.
Sophi shrugged. ONLY IF YOU WANT TO.  She realized that her paper was pretty full at this point and shoved it away from her.  This was ridiculous.  She wanted her damn voice back.  Crossing her arms, she just shrugged again and finished off her breakfast, looking up at him.
"Need another sheet?" He asked, finishing another slice of bacon.
Frustrated, Sophi shook her head.  She was a bit tired of writing at this point anyway.  What she wanted to know was what was in that journal from his former human.  For some reason she was really curious about their relationship.  It sounded like it might have been similar to what her and Eres might have had but he was gone for now.  At least she could figure out if anything other than a pet/master relationship could exist between giants and humans.  She sat patiently and waited for him to finish.
Finishing up his bacon, Christopher stood up to wash the grease from his hands. He dried them and held a hand out to her.  "Alright...I guess it's time to see. I'm assuming you want to, too?"
She pulled back slightly as his hand came close again, expecting her to climb on.  Standing up, she looked over the edge of the counter, noticing that there was no easy way down that wouldn't involve her jumping.  Looking back at Christopher she couldn't help frowning.  There was nothing for it...she nodded and crouched down in the center of his palm.
"I know that you're still worried about being held, but I want you to know I don't see you as a pet," he offered, carefully lifting her hand heading out of the kitchen. "More like... a very rude roommate," he said with a smirk.
RUDE??  She mouthed at him, with a fierce look, ready to argue.  But then she noticed him smirking.  He was joking with her?  She smiled back a bit and quickly turned away.  Stupid giant and his kindness towards her.
He headed upstairs and into his room, setting her beside the box and sitting on the bed. He was glad he'd set her down, his hands were starting to shake from nerves he noticed as he picked up the tiny journal. He opened the drawer on in the table and pulled out a magnifying glass. "Alright... here we go."
He opened it up and began reading. It started with possible escape plans, to confusion, to... he felt himself tearing up and smiling as he reached the final entry. The night before it had happened. He passed the journal back down to Sophi, placing his face in his hand and letting himself cry quietly.
Sophi watched him cry, unsure of what to do.  Suddenly reading the journal seemed like to private a moment between the human and the giant.  She placed the journal down, feeling like it wasn't her place to take part in such a special moment.  She sat down, curiously watching the giant, wishing that she could talk to him about it but there wasn't really anything she could do.  She just watched him in silence until he had calmed down.
Taking a deep breath, eyes still teary and still smiling when he looked down at her, "Sh-She... she loved me," he said, letting out a slight chuckle.  "I-I thought that she just liked me, as a friend but...we could've had something."
Her eyes widened.  A human loved a giant?  And from the way he was talking...he would have been interested as well?  The whole thing was crazy!  But for some reason, that confession bothered her.  So there were people out there who could love humans as real people and not as pets.  She sat down and rubbed the bridge of her nose.  She knew that that was good...and she was happy for him.  But she felt strange.  She nodded with a half-smile, trying to be encouraging.  IM SORRY, she mouthed to him.
He nodded, smiling still. "I-I know. Thank you for... for convincing me to read it," he said, taking another deep breath to calm himself.
If things hadn't gone wrong than this giant probably would have been happy with Kasey and she would have been with Eres by now...with her voice.  It was strange how much things could change because of one accident.  She stood up and looked around on the end table, to find something to write with but couldn't find anything.  She made a writing motion in her hand, hating to as at this moment.
He nodded, pulling out an old envelope and a pen from the drawer and setting them in front of her* "I'm sorry, I must look pretty ridiculous right now. Crying and everything."
Sophi shook her head.  IT'S OKAY.  YOU CARED ABOUT HER.  She wrote out.  I JUST FEEL BAD THAT SHES NOT HERE WITH YOU BUT AT LEAST YOU NOW KNOW HOW SHE FELT.  THAT'S GOOD? She guessed.
"Yeah... yeah it is," he said, nodding.  "Thank you again, Sophi."
I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING.  She wrote and sat down on the table.
"Yes.  You really did," he said with a small smile.  "If it weren't for you, I'd have never known."
Sophi hummed in her own head.  SO YOU LOVED HER?  She wrote out with shaking hands, still letting her curiosity get the better of her:  LIKE A PERSON AND NOT LIKE A PET, RIGHT?
"Yeah, I did," he said, shifting and lying on the bed.  "I kind of thought... she'd think I was being strange or ridiculous though so... I never told her."
The way that Christopher felt about Kasey seemed a little different from how Eres felt about her.  Christopher seemed like the type who would have never let some giant pin her down and take her voice away.  Eres may have cared about her, but seeing this...it wasn't the damn same and that hurt.  She assumed that how Eres felt about her was the best that a human could do but apparently that was wrong.  I DON'T WANT TO FIND ERES, she wrote and held the paper up so he would see since he was lying on the bed.
He looked over at her, "Oh?  Should I call back, tell him not to try getting a hold of Eres?" He wasn't going to argue it. He was doing what she wanted to help her, and if she didn't want to see Eres he wouldn't question it. Besides, he kind of didn't want her to go now.
HE CAN'T HELP ME. Sophi explained.  HE HELPED THE DOCTOR GIVE ME THE SHOT TO TAKE MY VOICE AWAY.  She took a deep sigh of her own:  DON'T EVEN CALL.  I'M SURE HE'LL NEVER GET THE MESSAGE IN THE FIRST PLACE.  I WASN'T EXACTLY POPULAR AT THE SHELER.
"Then I guess I've just got one more question for you," he said, turning to face her, "Would you like to stay here with me?"
WHERE THE HELL ELSE CAN I GO?  Sophi wrote, feeling a little bitter for some reason.  DON'T ACT LIKE ME STAYING IS MY DECISION OR SOMETHING.  She turned away from him, becoming angrier.  His kindness annoyed her, and for the life of her she didn't know why.
Christopher frowned, confused with how quickly her moods could change, but he still felt bad that she wasn't able to contact the one person that she seemed to trust…even if only a little bit.
"I'm not going to grab you," he started, reaching out and making the same comforting stroking motion against the side of her arm with his knuckle.  "I'm sorry, it was a stupid question. I guess what I meant was, would you be more ok with staying here? I know before you just wanted to stay until we could think of something else.  But would you be more ok with staying?"
Sophi couldn't help shrugging his finger away.  I DON'T MIND STAYING she wrote and slid the paper behind her for him to see.
He pulled his hand away and nodded.  "Alright," Christopher said, trying to keep his tone light.  "Do you still want me to try to get the antidote at least?"
She shook her head.  What would be the damn point?  Still feeling upset, she stood up and walked over to her pillow, trying to climb up.  She didn't want to leave but there was a part of her that wondered if she would always be compared to Kasey and she didn't like the idea of always feeling that way.  She wasn't kind and she certainly wasn't kind to him so he probably would just ignore her after a while.  She tried to climb up the pillow, but was having a big of difficult and kicked it hard, not even causing it to slide.
"Would you... like a hand?" He asked tentatively, holding his hand behind her like he'd cup her in it if she would allow him to.
She stopped climbing for a moment and looked at his hand.  Shaking her head angrily she walked away from it to just sit behind the pillow so she could hide from him.  She hated needed helping and what was worse, the more she got to know him, the more she wanted it.  He wasn't bad...and he was he was really cute...especially for a giant.  She didn't see many giants close to her own age, usually older people and kids.  It was different.  She felt self-conscious more often and more wanting to admit that she didn't mind him.  But she couldn't admit that to him.  He liked Kasey because she was strong...and she had never felt so weak.
Christopher sighed, retracting his hand, "I'm sorry; I did something again didn't I?" He said, feeling bad.  It seemed like every time he tried to really talk to her or help her, he did something to set her off again.
Sophi didn't move from behind the pillow, and didn't bother trying to answer him.
Watching her for a moment longer before turning away from her, "I'm sorry. For whatever it was."  He had to admit, she was a pretty amazing human. She was cute for one thing... maybe even more so than Kasey. So was so determined, and bold as well. Maybe... maybe she just needed more time.
Sophi peaked out.  SHUT UP, she mouthed at him.  When he apologized she felt like she was doing something wrong.  Coming out from behind the pillow, she covered her face with her hand...she wanted to explain what was wrong but she was having a hard time figuring out what it even was herself.  YOU'RE NOT DOING ANYTHING WRONG, SO STOP THINKING THAT, she wrote on the closest piece of paper.
He turned to her, hearing her moving again. "Then why... why do you keep acting like I'm one of those giants when I try to help you? You said yourself that I was different...yet you act like I'm just going to snatch you up and toss you in a cage." He sat up, looking at her and trying to figure her out.
Sophi shrugged grabbing her paper again. WHATS TO STOP YOU FROM PUTTING ME IN A CAGE?  I KNOW THAT I COULDN'T AND THAT'S WHAT SUCKS.  She frowned a bit as she slid the paper close to him, surprised that she was still talking to him.  She wasn't used to a giant wanting to spend so much time around her.
"But... but I wouldn't put you in a cage. I'd never do that!"  He blurted out, resting his arms on his knees and looking up towards her. "Can you please... at least come out where I can see you?"
She nodded a bit to herself before coming out from behind the pillow.  She didn't look him in the eye but she stood there looking somewhere between looking sheepish and angry.  Shrugging, she held out her hands in a 'what?' motion.  She didn't understand why it mattered whether he could see her or not.
"Well, I just like to face people when I'm talking to them," he said, scratching the back of his head.  He wondered what he could say to convince her to really trust him. "It's not just a cage, is it?  It's the fear that I'm... a giant. Isn't it?" He asked, trying to figure out why she acted like she did, despite his best intentions.
Sophi nodded.  Giants had never been kind.  She had learned that pretty quickly and did everything in her power to get away from them.  She tried to look him in the eye again but felt a little too ashamed.  She never gave too much thought about hating herself for not being a giant because she always focused on hating giants because they were bigger than her.  DO YOU BLAME ME? She wrote out. GIANTS WERE THE ONES THAT DID THIS TO ME.
Christopher nodded back at her, sighing. He thought for a moment though of something that might help. "Well, some giants may have put you in this situation... but did I?" He asked her.
Rubbing the back of her head, she shook it then.  WELL NO.  She mouthed to him.  BUT...she trailed off, looking a big unsure and started to write again.  BUT YOU COULD IF YOU WANTED TO!
"I guess that I can understand that," he admitted, nodding. He reached out tentatively, stroking her arm lightly. "I'm not sure how much you'd take the word of someone like me, but I'd like you take mine at least. I'd never do anything that you didn't approve of first."
She felt her skin grow hot as his hand touched her arm.  What was with him?  He was always so gentle to her...and he really hadn't done anything to hurt her yet.  Maybe she could at least try it.  It had to work out better than being taken back to the shelter.  She smiled a bit before nodding again.
He smiled back at her. "Thank you, Sophi." He stroked her arm a couple more times before retracting his hand and sitting straight up.  "So, I think that's enough drama for the day. Anything you want to do?" He asked happily, trying to lighten the mood after the journal reading and the trust situation
Sophi thought for a moment.  It had been so long that anyone had asked her what she wanted to do.  But with everything that she had gone through the past few years. Only one thing came to mind almost immediately.  DO YOU THINK THAT WE COULD GO OUTSIDE? She wrote on her piece of paper and pointed to it.
Yeay!! Part IV! Oh whatever will happen now that Sophi has made her first request?? Hope you enjoy this chapter!!

Aw, poor Christopher...on the one hand he's got closure now but...it's kind of sad thinking about what might have been, huh? Still, Sophi's opening up some so...hopefully it'll get better for both of them. :)
