Back To School:  Winter Break 1

Shawn hadn't remembered feeling this nervous in a long time. Carson had given directions to a "safe place" to park her car and then he would take her to his family's house, but she was still terrified. She clutched the steering wheel tightly, looking around for Carson to show in the 'giant and human friendly parking lot' but her hands still shook. "This is a big thing," she said in quiet voice, trying to calm her nerves. "But it's going to be okay, Carson and I have been together for a long time. He's met my parents and it was fine. It's the same thing..." she didn't believe her words, pressing her chin to the steering wheel.  "Dammit, I hope he shows up soon. I'm going crazy."
Carson ran towards the parking lot, cursing his bad memory. He'd slept in on the day of he was supposed to be picking up Shawn!  "Dammit! Please be late too, please be late too..."  He sighed, slowing down as he approached and saw her car.  He walked up carefully so as not to shake the little vehicle too much, crouching down to her.  "Hey, sorry I'm late."
Her face was still pressed against the steering wheel when she heard the steady rumbling of a giant's footsteps. Since there were no other cars in the lot, she could only assume...she smiled. She recognized those shoes. She immediately hopped out of the car, trying to stop her hands from shaking.  "H-hey," she said. "No it's okay, it's winter break, wait...so long as you're not late because you slept in?"  She smirked at him, trying to keep things light so Carson wouldn't pick up on how nervous she was.
"W-Well... um... yeah."  He hung his head, embarrassed.  "Not my fault though, my alarm clock decided to die last night!" he insisted, waving his hands. Some giants would probably think little of him looking so nervous around a human, but he didn't care. He hated screwing up, especially around her.
She arched her brow, trying not to laugh at him. Gosh, he had such a way of making her feel better without even realizing he was doing it. She walked around to the back of her car and pulled out a suitcase and a few smaller bags, starting to loop them over her shoulder. "Now I reserved this spot for the entire week, so my car should be fine," she said, pulling out a slip of paper and practically waddling to the front of her car with all of her luggage to tuck a tag under a windshield wiper.  "Should we get going?" she said, several bags looped around her. "I'm sure your house is a lot more exciting than this parking lot is, though I have to admit..." she lowered her head. "I'm nervous as hell."
"Hey, there's no reason to be nervous!" he said with a smile, holding his hand out for her. "My family is super chill, and my parents work around humans all the time. They know to be careful," he assured, nodding.
"W-well," she backed away from his hand, not wanting Carson to see her knees shaking. "I mean...what if they don't like me? Human or not? I don't always give the best first impressions, Junior. I want your parents to like me, almost as much as I like you." She blushed up at him, looking a bit sheepish. "Gods, I sound so freaking cheesy."
"Well it's a good thing I like cheese then," he said, bringing his other hand around and nudging her gently towards his open hand. "And if I like you this much, the family's gonna like you too."
"I really hope you're right," she said, allowing Carson to maneuver her into his hand. She settled in the center of his palm, "Hey, you mind leaning closer for a moment? You might want to do something with my suitcase," she said.  "I don't mind holding these bags, but I think suitcase may be a bit much for me."  She smiled.
"I can just hold it all in my pocket if you want." he suggested, bringing her close like she'd asked as he slowly and carefully stood upright.
She smiled. "Mind bringing your face a bit closer?" she asked him, starting to take the bags off her shoulder so she could hand them to him. She had an idea, but she needed him to cooperate. "Just a little closer," she said, holding the bags close to her.
He laughed and rolled his eyes, bringing her up so they were practically nose to nose. "Close enough yet, or would you like to ride on my nose?" he asked with a smirk.
She laughed out loud at the idea and picture of it. "No stupid," she chucked but reached out to hug his cheek. "I just missed you is all. I haven't seen you for a few days and we usually see each other every day at school. It was weird so how about no poking fun at me okay, Junior?"  She laughed, squeezing him tighter.
"... Alright, sorry."  He smiled, plucking up her belongings and setting them in his shirt pocket before shifting his hand to hug her close to his cheek, smiling at the feeling. "I really missed you too..."
After she gave him a light kiss on his cheek, she started to pull away.  "So..." she said in a nervous voice, trembling lightly. "I guess we should do this, huh?  The whole meeting the parents thing."
"Yeah... Come on, let's go."  He held her close to his chest, starting to walk off in the direction they needed to go. His mother had been kind enough to use her talents to get them there, being able to short range teleport people. He just needed to head to his house, and give her the ok.
She tried to keep things light.  "So I've never been to a giant's house before...actually Trish invited me to go with her family to this beautiful home they have on a seclude island..." she smiled up at him.  "Is there anything you think I need to know before I meet your family?'
"Um... don't sit in Dad's chair, don't drop anything on the carpet and... No, I think that's it. No real fear of either of those things anyway," he said with a chuckle, "Dad's real laid back, Mom is... well, a mom. And Celie's a bit hyper. Nice, but hyper."
"Celie?" Shawn asked, searching her memory. "She's your sister, right? How old is she again?"
"She just turned 10. And I know what you're worried about, but don't be. She's got human friends of her own her age, so she's well behaved around them. Gentle as a kitten," he assured, already predicting her concerns. "I wouldn't have invited you if I didn't think you'd be safe."
Shawn nodded. "Who says I'm nervous?"  She tried to play it off, but honestly it was just another thing she was worried about. Her mother had given her a talk about being 'nice and approachable' and she hoped she could pull it off but being in a house of giants for the whole week, while being with her boyfriend, and meeting parents for the first time and a 10 year old giant? She took a deep, trembling breath.  "I-I'm sure everything will be okay."
"Everything WILL be ok, I promise," he said with a smile and a nod, keeping her close. After another few minutes' walk he finally reached his place on campus, just a simple little thing with a bedroom, bathroom, and living room. He pulled out his cell phone and started texting. "Just gonna let Mom know we're here."
"Oh?" Shawn looked a little confused. "What are you doing? How are we going to get to your family's house from here? You never did tell me, Junior. You have me a bit curious now."
"Oh, it's Mom's talent. You know about giant houses and such right? And how giants have little things they can do? Well, Mom can transport people short distances... relatively. It turns out I'm close enough to home from here for her to get us home," he said with a smile, explaining things for her.
"Wow, that's a pretty cool talent to have," Shawn said. She knew about Giants and their talents, her parents had told her about Sunny and Beckon to know that, but she didn't think about the other giants at her own school having talents like that. She wondered about Trish and Jason and the others before her eyes widened.  "W-what about you?" she asked.  "What's your talent?"
"Oh um... i-it's boring, trust me," he said, waving a free hand dismissively. "You wouldn't be interested. Nothing like full on teleporting anyway."
"Oh come on, Junior! You can tell me, its not like I have anything to say...I'm not a special."  She smiled up at him, jokingly pulling on his shirt like a kid does when they want a cookie.  "Please tell me?"
"Well first off, you're totally special... to me," he said, a bit cheesy.  "And... alright. Those pictures I make?"  He waited for Shawn to nod.  "It's kind of cheating. I can put anything down exactly as I see it in my head without even trying."
She blushed when he called her special, damn him and his ability to make her smile. "Wow! What do you mean that isn't a cool talent to have?? That's amazing, Junior! You'll have to show me some of your drawings! You always keep them hidden!"
"Oh, I guess I can now actually... I was scared to before, since they were... well a lot of em were of you," he said, walking over to his bedroom to grab his notebook.
She smiled* "Well it's up to you, do you want to show me now, or do you want to show me after we get to your house...wait...a lot of them are of me??"
"Yeah... I was honestly crushing on you for a bit after we met," he said, smiling sheepishly. "That's... that's not creepy is it?" he asked, pulling up the notebook from under his bed. He checked his phone, seeing a text that said [gimme a minute].
She watched him check his phone, assuming it was his family.  "You're kidding," she said, trying to laugh it off.  "You had a crush on me? Geez where were you when I was younger in high school?"  She laughed a bit, but her face flushed with discomfort of the memory. She tried to smile it off, not wanting to be a downer. "It's not creepy at all," she added.  "It's really nice."
Assured by her, he held her in one hand, using his other to flip to the first page in the notebook, the first time he'd met her and felt the need to draw her.
Her eyes widened. "Oh my gosh, Carson," she whispered, using his real name which was a rarity in itself. She easily hopped out of his hand to the notebook, looking at the picture. "This is amazing," she said, kneeling down and tracing her own cheek in the picture. "Is this really how you see me? You made me look so much better than I really do."  She kept staring at the picture, amazing at how good his artwork was.
"No Shawn... that's how I see you because that's how you look... pretty damn incredible," he said with a smile, tracing a finger down her cheek as she did her own.
Her skin felt hot as he did so, smiling to herself since her back was to him.  "Carson, this is incredible," she said, reaching out to grab his finger and give it a tight hug. "I didn't think it was possible to find someone like you, not after..." she trailed off, shaking it away. "So was that your mom on the phone earlier?"
"Oh, yeah. She should have the portal ready any-"  Before he could finish a light appeared before them, opening into a translucent blue hole.  "... Second now... Ready?"  he asked her, smiling. Of course he wanted to know about what was on her mind, it seemed she'd zone out or even very nearly talk about it ever since her mother visited that one night. He wouldn't pressure her though, no matter how curious he was.
"Y-yes…" she said in a nervous voice, hopping away from the sketch book and into his hand so she could be close to him as they transported.  She had never done anything like this before…couldn't even imagine in until right now as she stared ahead.  "Better now than never," she said.
He cupped her close, tossing his notebook on the bed.  "Don't worry, you'll be ok."  He stepped forward, the portal going over them like a fine film, opening into the living room of a rather nice looking home. "And welcome-"
"To our home," his mother said from behind them, smiling warmly.
Yeay! Shawn and Carson (aka Junior) go on Winter Break and she finally gets to meet his family! haha could you imagine meeting your girlfriend or boyfriend's family knowing they were all giants? I would be so freaking nervous!!
